The Weather Man - A Review
The Weather Man, directed by acclaimed director, Gore Verbinski, starring Nicholas Cage, Michael Caine, Hope Davis and other star cast.
The movie is very inspiring to me. It tells the story of David Spritz (Nicholas Cage) balancing his life between his profession of reporting the weather on TV, separating from his wife, dealing with his children and a dying father.
The story was told in a clever and insightful way. It deals on the subject of growing-up. David is a weatherman without meteorological qualifications in Chicago, is confronted with his own rage that life hasn't proceeded as he had planned. He thinks that he is a failure because he constantly compares himself with his Pulitzer winning, distant father is at a low ebb. Not to mention that "fans" delight in recognizing him on the street and throwing food at him. The other problems in his life, an angry ex-wife who is going to marry someone, a daughter bullied at school and a son wrongly accused of a crime. Through finding a hobby, connecting with his dying father and standing by his kids we can see the character grow and become a hero.
To me, it was an inspiring movie because it reminded me that life is much more than a paper qualification or how much you make from your job. It also reminded me about self esteem. It doesn't matter how other see you. The most important thing is how you see yourself. And of course, dealing with the subject of a dying father is not easy. Michael Caine played the character to perfection. And the whole movie was based in winter Chicago, where the America upper middle class culture exist. And the winter snow just add the melancholy to the movie, showing us how depressing Dave's life can be, despite being famous as the weather man.
PS: Lately, my life has been a bit complicated, mostly because I think a lot and did quite some soul searching. And this movie came along, reminded me something valuable about life. Maybe it wasn't a coincident that the TV was showing this movie when I decided to take a break from studies? Really worth watching if you put some soul in it while watching... Gave me food for thought later and made me realise something...

REJOICE!!!
I am not advertising for the shampoo...
This CNY, someone reminded me that I might have forgotten the true spirit of Chinese New Year, that is to meet up with family...
And on the third day of Chinese New Year, I really got to do that. A dear uncle from Penang came for the "lou sang" dinner... So basically, we were just chatting and watching babies... My cousins are sooooo CUTE!!!
Need I say more??
And the precious family picture we took...
Thanks for the memories, my dear family...

To All Souls That Hate Chinese New Year
Do you hate it when Chinese New Year means battle of wits between relatives that you don't even remember their names?
Do you hate it when meals are no longer proper meals but servings of super sweet stuff that will definitely cause sore throat and some other sickness later?
Do you hate it when your house is noisier than a market where people is always around and the TV is blaring like a loudspeaker?
Do you hate it when you have to put on the fake smile when some morons just accidentally on purpose shoot you left, right and center?
Do you hate it when you don't have time to study when finals is just around the corner?
Do you hate it when you just feel like saying something but have to think four times just because they are a tad bit older than you? Sometimes, younger?
Do you hate it when every time you meet up with female cousins, they tend to judge whether you handbag is genuine or not, or whether you can really afford that piece of clothing you are wearing?
Do you hate it when you can't even have a proper evening nap because there are always people around?
Do you hate it when you have to wake up so early in the morning just cause it's new year and you slept at 3am last night?
Do you hate it when you get shoot by someone with no reason at all? Just because they think they are more superior simply because they are richer, fatter and more annoying?
Lessons To Be Learnt
So, I am going to share a few lessons I've learnt over the past few days... These are the things I've found online and it make sense to me...
PS: Gor Gor, don't be afraid to swim deep into philosophy, because it might bring you a whole new view on certain things... Like how I view love and all its complication...
Enjoy the quotes (in light blue)...
My personal comments (in green) are just my opinion... Not necessarily true... ;)
No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won't make you cry.
I've shed some tears for some people, and realised that no point me crying for them if they don't know what is going on or they don't even know that they've hurt me...
Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.
Am still trying to accept the fact that love isn't like in the movies, where you and your lover run into each other's arms in a wide open field... T_T
A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
A true friend is someone who is there no matter what... And whose shoulder is always soggy from your tears, whose ear ache after listening to you crying on phone for half an hour, who chat with you online at unearthly hours when you need them... ( you know who you are, and I sincerely thank you for that)
The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can't have them.
But sometimes, it is way more painful to have someone in your hands knowing that he/she is not truly yours...
Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.
Every smile is beautiful...
To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
I wish so too... Unfortunately, I am not really that significant... Hahaha...
Don't waste your time on a man/woman, who isn't willing to waste their time on you.
Am I really wasting my time? I hope not...
Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the person, we will know how to be grateful.
God just want us to learn to pick up ourselves after every fall... And learn to be grateful when we actually don't fall...
Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened.
Thanks for the memories... It was beautiful... Maybe was the happiest week in my life...
There's always going to be people that hurt you so what you have to do is keep on trusting and just be more careful about who you trust next time around.
Experience is the best teacher... Learn from mistakes...
Make yourself a better person and know who you are before you try and know someone else and expect them to know you.
Self understanding is extremely important in the process of self discovery and also communication...
Don't try so hard, the best things come when you least expect them to.
Totally agreed!! Things happen for a reason, and when it happens, grab it with both hands...
May everyone be blessed with the wisdom to judge, and the courage to stand up after each fall...
The Middle
And I love this song... The Middle!!
Love the lyrics and the inspiration it gave me, especially during this stressful exam period!!
And the rocking part of the song!! Just suits the whole exam mood!!
These are the words to the song... Get what I mean?
Hey,
Don't write yourself off yet.
It's only in your head you feel left out,
Or looked down on.
Just try your best,
Try everything you can.
And don't you worry what they tell themselves
When you're away.
[Chorus]
It just takes some time,
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything, everything will be just fine,
Everything, everything will be alright. (alright)
Hey,
You know they're all the same.
You know you're doing better on your own, (on your own)
So don't buy in.
Live right now.
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough (good enough)
For someone else.
[Chorus x2]
Hey, don't write yourself off yet.
It's only in your head you feel left out, (feel left out)
Or looked down on.
Just do your best, (just do your best)
Do everything you can. (do everything you can)
And don't you worry what their bitter hearts (bitter hearts)
Are gonna say.
[Chorus x2]
Let's ROCK!!!

One Day Without You
And never got to see you the next day
That day is the very faithful day
When I noticed you walked away
Vanished across the sea and behind the clouds
You don't know me
And you don't even care
You were just looking for someone
To safe you from being lost at sea
The phone stopped ringing
The message not delivered
The line so broken like us
The wall between us so thick
I can no longer see your silhouette
The unspoken words between us blurred
I can no longer see your heart
I'm tired of sunsets
And crying alone in the rain
And you have ceased to ask
You are mine but never truly mine
Hearing I love you
Is almost like a blatantly honest lie
A beautiful lie that I wanted to believe in so much
But nonetheless a lie
One day without you
Thought I would think about you
And the times between us
But I was wrong
You were just like a shadow that walked passed
I didn't even see your face
Or hear your voice
Just like all the other days
One day without you
Is just like any other day in my life
The phone still wouldn't ring
The flame almost die
Trace of tears dried
You don't know me
You don't even care
I think it's time to let go
I'm looking forward to another sunrise
~This poem was heavily influenced by "Boston" by Augustana.
Partly based on real life, but mostly imagination, just like most of my other poems...
Wish these words can be lyrics to a melody...

End of The Road
Maybe this is really the end of the road,
I really thought I was cuddled in safe hands,
Having a companion on this journey of life,
I was wrong,
I am still alone...
The empty promises,
The superficial things
Don't make promises if you don't mean to keep them,
Don't say words that you are unsure of the meanings,
I went so deep,
That I may be drown in sorrow now.
Maybe things will be different very soon,
I am not the kind that will force myself.
My mind today
Had never been clearer ,
or sadder...
The truth hurts,
Like having my heart torn out from its very cavity,
But at least I get the truth,
I may be wrong...
Maybe its time to pack up,
And start a new journey,
Go back to square one,
I actually went no where...
I am always alone to start with,
Why should I long for a companion on this journey of life?
But why am I feeling like I've been broken?
Sadness because it is the end of a beautiful journey?
Silent Cry...
I WISH...
That you can dance with me in the rain, not walk behind me...
That you would look me in the eyes and say those words, where you actually mean it...
That you would listen to me instead of hearing me...
That you would pay more attention to me when I am silently screaming my heart out...
That you can read my mind, not just what I show the world...
That you were the one with me, not them...
That you will really be there, not just me wishing you were there...
~I was listening to an inspiring piece by Craig Eastman and suddenly got the melancholic feeling, and also the inspiration to write something, thus this "Silent Cry"...
To all the people out there, who feels like "Silent Cry", know that you are not alone, no matter if you are bullied, ignored, cheated, or thinks that no one understands you...
John Donne once said, "No man is an island".
All you really need is a listener, someone you can lean on to cry...

I Never Knew That~~
Your view on yourself:
You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties. The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:
You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You prefer to get to know a person very well before deciding whether you will commit to the relationship. The seriousness of your love:
Your have very sensible tactics when approaching the opposite sex. In many ways people find your straightforwardness attractive, so you will find yourself with plenty of dates.Your views on education
You may not like to study but you have many practical ideas. You listen to your own instincts and tend to follow your heart, so you will probably end up with an unusual job.The right job for you:
You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life. How do you view success:
You are confident that you will be successful in your chosen career and nothing will stop you from trying. What are you most afraid of:
You are concerned about your image and the way others see you. This means that you try very hard to be accepted by other people. It's time for you to believe in who you are, not what you wear.Who is your true self:
You are full of energy and confidence. You are unpredictable, with moods changing as quickly as an ocean. You might occasionally be calm and still, but never for long.Interested in knowing yourself more?

Can Thinking Make You Fat?
With about half of the United States’ workforce classified as “white collar”, a new study out of Canada is relevant food for thought-- but don’t think about it too much! The study, which examined calories consumed after participants completed various intellectually challenging activities, determined that test subjects ate more after finishing more strenuous intellectual activities than when they finished intellectual activities that were less demanding.
Can thinking really make you fat? The Universite Laval study indicates that, although intellectual work sessions expended only three more calories than non-intellectual work sessions, those who thought more indeed also ate more, post-activity. In fact, participants who took on the challenging intellectual tasks consumed up to 29.4 percent more calories than those who did not.
One reason for this behavioral discrepancy could be chemical: more grueling intellectual work corresponded with greater fluctuations of glucose and insulin in the body. These findings raise questions regarding whether the brain, after being taxed, attempts to replenish its energy (glucose) through urging the body to eat more.
Before you gear up to blame any excess weight on your superior intellectual activity, remember that the basic equation of too many calories plus not enough movement still equals weight gain. Clearly, though, it’s best not to think about it too much, and instead just go work out.

Just Like Heaven
And apparently, I fell in love with the soundtrack too!! It's by the same name, Just Like Heaven. Originally performed by The Cure, but this movie's soundtrack is actually a cover version by Katie Melua. I love her voice and also the angelic music arrangement. Love the lyrics too!!
The one that makes me scream he said
The one that makes me laugh he said
And threw his arms around my neck
Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you
Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed his face and kissed his head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make him glow
Why are you so far away? he said
Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you
You, soft and only
You,lost and lonely
You, strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream
Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe his name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only boy I loved
And drowned him deep inside of me
You, soft and only
You, lost and lonely
You, just like heaven
You, soft and only
You, lost and lonely
You, just like heaven

My Friendship Style...
Your Friendship Style is Philosophical |
You take every friendship you have seriously, and you spend a lot of time analyzing your friends. You've thought a lot about what it means to be a good friend, and you hold yourself to your standard. In return, you expect your friends to be loyal, honest, and real. You're somewhat picky about who you're friends with. Fighting with your friends bothers you more than most people. You can't stop replaying arguments over and over in your head. You and an Empathetic Friend: Try to understand one another. You approach life very differently, but you're willing to listen to one another. You and a Gregarious Friend: Are a better match than expected. You understand and appreciate your Gregarious Friend's energy. You and an Independent Friend: Get along pretty well, but you can't help but think your Independent Friend needs to learn better manners! You and another Philosophical Friend: Are friends for life. You can get lost in your intense, interesting conversations... and maybe even change the world together! |
Thankful...
I thought I was going to be all alone in Kampar this year, celebrating my last teen birthday with myself. However, this birthday is the most memorable birthday I ever have, because I learnt so many things this time. I never am a religious person, I am not even sure if I believe in God, but I am thankful to Him this time.
The day before my birthday, my family drove all the way to Kampar to have dinner with me. And I really appreciate it, even when my dad complaint about the crowd, my mother complaint about the service and my bro complaint about the food... Thank God for giving me such wonderful family who celebrated my birthday with me because they worried that I am going to be lonely...
At 12am, my best friends shouted from outside of the house and practically woke everyone up, just so that they can wish me happy birthday. Thank God for giving me friends who love me so much that they didn't care of waking the whole neighbourhood.
In lecture, Nicole announce my birthday to the class and the whole Stream E sang me a Birthday Song and I got a beautiful necklace from TE1. I am deeply touched. Thank God for giving me such wonderful classmates. And thank God for placing me among good company of TE1.
At night, a bunch of us went for dinner at Gold Label and we joked of a lot of things. We enjoyed the food and each other's company. After that, they even got me a surprise party. Their efforts will forever be in my heart!! Thank you Nicole and Si Nan for planning such elaborated surprise. Thank you Zyenyi, Nicole, Si Nan and all those who designed my birthday cake, it was really a delight eating such unique combination of chocolate cake!! Thank you Kumutha, Zac and YY for such cute present, I will sleep every night, knowing that I am surrounded by friends. Thank you Goldon, for participating in the surprise. Thank you Andrew Gor Gor, for your many wishes, I understand why you can't make it, so don't feel sad... Thank God, for blessing me with wonderful friends who stood with me through so many storms.
I also received the best presents that night. I will forever remember the walk after dinner. All the words said and the things done, will remain forever... Every lamp post will have our shadow in its bulbs. Every pavement will have our imprints within its rocks. This moment will forever be cemented in my memory. Thank you for being there. And thank God for blessing me with such wonderful moments.
Thankful... Because I know I am lucky. I am truly lucky to be in good company, with my friends and with someone... Quoting Jason Mraz, I am lucky to be in love with my best friend... I am lucky to be blessed with so much love in life. And I am truly thankful for that...

In the greens
There was a flower
On earth so beautiful
That she was not noticed
Among all the other greens
She always thought to herself
A life on Earth
Is a life insignificant
No one will mourn
If she wilts or break
No one will notice
If she vanish from very sight
But there came a shooting star
A star so bright
That it lighted up the Earth
And brought wonders
A star so great
That the flower has hope
So much hope
That she blossoms
Into a creature so beautiful
That the Earth envy
~~Am listening to the song titled The Water Is Wide, the instrumental version and thought of writing a few words for the beautiful melody... Of course my awkward lines are not as great as the original lyricist. But the song really give me this kind of feeling and imagination...
Chronicles of Bicycle: Can't See
However, thanks to Ms Chuah who kindly helped us carry our props and laptop back to the house when we cycled. So, we cycled in the rain. And got real wet. Really wet...
I cycled through the tunnel at Block C for just a short distance and my entire clothings were dripping wet. And I can't even see the road!! But no way we were going to wait, since it was already getting so dark and there were no more buses. No choice but to brave through the rain...
Anyway, Zac had the foresight to arrange us in formation for a safe journey home. Si Nan lead us in front while Zac and Goldon followed behind. The girls were safely sandwiched between 3 guys. How thoughtful are you, Zac? Haha... But it was really scary, cause in the middle of the journey, when going downslope, some buffaloes ran across the road. I was scared shitless and I can't see the road clearly!! I was so worried that I was going to run into one. Luckily nothing happened.
For the first time in my life, I got so wet in the rain. Yes, I can feel the raindrops dripping against my ribs. I can feel the water trickling down my calfs. I can feel the cold, piercing through my skin into my bones, numbing my body in the wind with so much rain hitting my face that I can no longer feel the pain. It was somehow liberating, and fun... I know, I am mad. But it was not wrong to love the rain! Hearing nothing but the sound of rain, hitting against a surface is so calming and relaxing...
Finally we reached home safely, thanks to the guys who escorted us. And we kinda made a puddle of water right in the common area of our house. Haha... But it was worth the experience and the fun of it!!!
Inter-Class Talk Show Competition 2009
Well, through this competition, I am touched my friends and fellow coursemates who lent us their hand and also support us through the entire event. Haha, another Oscar speech perhaps? Thanks to Si Nan who helped us so much in the technical parts and also Kumutha for controlling the visual aids to near perfection on that day. Thanks to Zac for helping us with the videos and of course had lotsa fun with us. Last but not least, thanks to my fellow team mates who support each other morally and emotionally through the assignment and this competition.
We proudly presented Nicole Jeffrey Show: The Terror of The Bleeding Heart in DDK1. Well, the atmosphere itself was scary. I was trying hard to actually train the butterflies in my stomach to fly in formation!! And not to mention, there were the difference in crowd and also class among the audience. So it was indeed a very terrifying experience.
The first team that presented was Yesterday Today's Show by TE3. Their topic was about Titanic. I am deeply impressed by their original ideas and also their perfect control of visual aids. It was very touching to watch their show. It is so full of substance and taste. They won the first prize and they deserve it, every second of it. Because it is the best show I've seen among all the other talkshows. Congrats to the group members!!
We presented after them. Unfortunately, the PA system was problematic and it really affected our show as the audience can't hear us well. Imagine shouting across a hall to an audience of 400 people. It wasn't easy at all. Our show focused a lot on humour, wordplay and wittiness. It was really a pity that we weren't able to present our show properly. But we did our best and we are proud to say that we got the consulation prize.
Next, Stream D students presented a slapstick funny piece on using money. Can't remember the title but the theme was overall very Chinese New Year-like and also very Malaysian style, a stark contrast to the 2 shows before which centered more on professional style. The content was quite funny and the videos were somewhat creative. Can see that the team really put in effort, especially in terms of sacrificing money for extravagant props.
Lastly, another show from Stream D, Bling Bling with Alvin Ling, which centered around ghost stories. I like the stuff they put in. The videos looked like they were professionally done and the jokes they put in managed to bring the crowd to laugh. I like the survey they did. The humour part was incorporated nicely into the show. But it was, however, funny for the host to be holding a clipboard through the entire show.
All in all, it was a good experience. Learnt a few things myself, and also notice the importance of manners through the show. I am so happy that Stream E won the competition. Congrats again to the winners and all the teams that put in effort.

30 Best Career for 2009
These few days, friends and juniors of mine have been bombarding me with questions because it's time for them to choose stream in Form 4 and also a suitable college or university course. After all, it's January 2009... So, my best advice is to look deep into your interest and consider that this decision may be a decision that you will have to live with in your entire lives, literally... Thus, consider your own passion and interest in a particular field and also take a look at the job market in the future...
Found this some where. Hope it can help some of you out there to make a suitable decision...
If you've recently been laid off, you've probably had someone tap you on the shoulder and tell you something like: "Out of crisis comes opportunity," or "When one door closes, another opens." It probably feels a little pat, but the truth is that many workers will use the downturn to switch out of a slow-growth career—and into work with a much more promising future.

The financial crisis and economic recession have made quick work of an expected gradual evolution in our economy. In the next few years, it could look very different—a shrunken Wall Street will force bankers to find jobs in other industries, a massive green-energy effort could create jobs that are barely on the map today, and an expanding healthcare sector could offer new opportunities for a broad swath of workers. So whether you're out of work or you're gainfully employed, you should keep on eye on the changing nature of our job market.
U.S. News has plowed through hundreds of careers, looking for the jobs with the best outlook in this recessionary economy (and beyond), the highest rates of job satisfaction, the least difficult training necessary, the most prestige, and the highest pay. These careers have staying power: They're smart moves now, and they'll be smart moves for years to come.
The aging of the baby boomer generation promises to place major demands on the healthcare system. There will be more need for physical therapists as active seniors work their way back from hip and knee replacements. A couple of national surveys also found that physical therapists rank high in job satisfaction. Registered nurses, biomedical equipment technicians, and physician assistants will also be in hot demand. Equipment technicians install, train, calibrate, and maintain a cadre of fast-evolving medical equipment, such as PET/CT scanners and robotic radiosurgery units. Computer systems know-how is increasingly useful, and you can be an everyday hospital hero after only a two-year associate's degree. Physician assistants need two or three years of postgraduate education. Then they can do about 80 percent of what physicians do, and their salaries can reach six figures.
It's also important to consider the effect of an Obama presidency on the labor market. The president-elect has indicated that healthcare reform will be a priority for his administration. Overhauling our existing system to make way for universal healthcare will require the hard work of many health policy specialists, who will be called upon to examine, analyze, or advise on everything from economic approaches to ethical outcomes of policy changes. Schools like Harvard, Penn, and Johns Hopkins offer interdisciplinary health policy programs, but there will be good job opportunities for people with primary expertise in economics, politics, medicine, accounting, management, and ethics, as well.
Some best careers may surprise you. Did you know that hair stylists rank among the most satisfied with their jobs? (No need to fear that your work will be outsourced, either.) Pharmacists are increasingly in demand as medical advisers, thanks to soaring physicians' costs and appointment delays. Firefighter is among the most prestigious careers, as ranked by the public in a Harris poll. It ranks behind scientist and physician—two careers that require much bigger investments in higher education. The veterinarian career—long a favorite for kids who love pets—is a surprisingly smart adult choice, with plenty of opportunities in the field, a variety of work environments, and, although it can be stressful, great reward for your labor.
Some careers fly well under the radar, so competition is less intense, even if job satisfaction runs high. Have you ever thought of a job as an audiologist? Probably not, but this career lets you work closely with the rapidly improving technology of hearing aids, and you spend lots of time out of the office—working one-on-one with patients in clinics or hospitals.
Workers who crave job security may find their last bastion of hope in the federal government. Government can always raise taxes or print more money—and it still offers full-time, well-paying positions with generous benefits, including ample holidays, sick days, and vacation days. More good news: There will be plenty of jobs to choose from, as a big chunk of federal employees become eligible for retirement over the next decade. Opportunities for a government manager abound—in everything from human resources to finance, research to public relations, and technology to art, with jobs throughout the United States and the world.

All Men Are Evil... (in some ways...)
My Chemistry lecturer told me... All Men Are Evil...
Men are
on the outside, and I am pretty sure they have this label underneath their skin...
However, sometimes it is a necessary evil...
Though this evil has given people a bunch of these in the heads...
But in the end, things are usually solved like Calvin and Hobbes (The comic where Calvin always fight with Hobbes, but usually things end in a tiger hug!!)
~~well, that mostly depends on how much risk you want to take, trusting a friend, or believing in a special someone, or simply entrusting a co-worker...~~
And this theory applies to almost everything...
The beginning of a friendship is vague because you don't know the person well, and if there is an ending, it is usually sad because only seriously big issues can end a true friendship... But all the moments shared in between that makes a friendship worth remembering...
The beginning of a relationship is scary because the path in front is never known, and it is usually sad because breaking up is like ripping each other's heart out right from their chest... But all that matters are the moments shared in between that makes a relationship worth cherishing...
The beginning of a journey is always terrifying because the path of discovery is never truly known. This journey never truly ends, but by of course, death... And even death of a person can continue to be the stepping stones for people around on their own journey of discovery... Life is never a bed of roses, but learning how to stand up after every fall, and learning to keep your head down when you are on top of the world, is what makes everything worth living...
~~Hhm... Me seriously wondering, why am I in philosophy mode today? A beautiful dream last night, maybe, that reminded me to appreciate life and people around me more?~~

7 Simple Rules To Fall Asleep
1.
The first thing you should know is, feeling sleepy in the afternoon is normal. It doesn’t mean you had a big lunch, or that you’re depressed, or you’re not getting enough exercise. That’s just how animals’ cycles work — every 24 hours, we have two periods of intense sleepiness. One is typically in the wee hours of the night, from about 2am to 4am, and the other is around 10 hours later, between 1pm and 3pm. If you’re a night owl and wake up later in the morning, that afternoon sleepiness may come later; if you’re an early bird, it may come earlier. But it happens to everyone; we’re physiologically hardwired to nap.
2.
Naps provide different benefits depending on how long they are. A short nap of even 20 minutes will enhance alertness and concentration, mood and coordination. A nap of 90 minutes will get you into slow wave and REM sleep, which enhances creativity. If you sleep deeply and uninterruptedly the whole time, you’ll go through a full 90-minute sleep cycle, and recoup sleep you might not have gotten the night before (we’ve all heard it a million times, but most of us don’t get enough sleep at night).
3.
Try not to sleep longer than 45 minutes but less than 90 minutes; then you’ll wake up in the middle of a slow-wave cycle, and be groggy. I used to hate taking naps during the day for just this reason — I would always wake up in a fog. My problem was I hadn’t yet perfected the art of the 20-minute catnap.
4.
Find a nice dark place where you can lie down. It takes about 50% longer to fall asleep sitting up (this is why red eye flights usually live up to their name), and be armed with a blanket; you don’t want to be chilly. You also don’t want to be too warm, which can lead to oversleeping. (There was a kind of urban legend circulating when I was a kid: don’t fall asleep in the sun, or you’ll never wake up. Not true — but you might wake up three hours later with a ripe sunburn.)
5.
White noise can help you fall asleep, especially during the day when construction crews, garbage trucks, barking dogs and other noisy awake-world things can conspire to destroy your nap. Keep a fan on, or turn on a nearby faucet for a pleasing rushing-river sound. (Just kidding about that last one.)
6.
Don’t nap too close to bedtime, or you might not be able to fall asleep later. Remember, your inbuilt sleepy window is sometime in the early to mid-afternoon — try to nap then.
7.
Quit that silly job where they don’t let you take naps during the day.

。。哈哈。。。
