Thinking back...
Thinking back... My most memorable incidents in 2008...
2008... The year I left home and stayed in Kampar... Was a terrifying experience at first... Cause the longest and furthest I've been away from home was during school camps and conferences. I remember having a sorta nervous breakdown when I really missed home in the first few weeks. But thinking back, it was at experience, an eye opener... I have to thank girl guiding a lot for building my foundation of independence...
2008... The year I started working part time at Erican's because I was too bored at home after SPM. I learnt what it was like to earn your own money. I know my parents worked hard to feed the family, but earning and spending your own money? It makes me appreciate my parents more, and of course, I learnt the real thing of managing my own accounts. Along the way, I've learnt the many ways of life, that is how to work with others and try to learn from others, no matter they are older or younger than me. I personally think that working with children in Erican has somehow increase my level of tolerance towards noise and kids...
2008... The year where I make more friends. University life has the biggest lesson to me... There was a chinese proverb, one depend on family at home, but depend on friends outside home. How true was that!! I've made wonderful friends who stick with me through thick and thin... And never leave me behind, no matter how slow I eat, how late I wake up, and how annoying I am... And I am forever thankful to have such blessing in my life!!
2008... The year where I learnt to love the rain more... Kampar is undeniably a beautiful town, with a lot of rain. I've always love the rain. But in Kampar, I love it more. Cycling in the rain was wonderful. Dancing in the rain was even greater!! I guessed anyone who follow my blog will know how much I am in love with rain...
2008... The year where I learnt an important skill... CYCLING!!! Years back, my brother tried to teach me cycling... But we both failed miserably... He permanently labelled me as bicycle- dumb... But since bicycle is the most important transport in Kampar, I had no choice but to learn to cycle, and I DID IT!!! Cycling is cool. It gets me to places, help me release stress, get me heaps of injuries, and inspired the Chronicles of Bicycle...
2008... The year where I was touched by angels... True friends of mine, you know who you are... Thank you for all your love and support all the while. I will never forget our crazy adventures at night and in the rain. The other three Queens in my heart, you know who you are, thanks for every memory that you shared with me. And you... thank you for walking me home that day. It hurts me to see you unhappy... Cheer up, ok?
2008... Never thought I would say this, but this is the year I realised how much I miss my brother. Distance makes the heart grows fonder... That is true... Before I leave home, our house was never quiet because the two siblings will be forever fighting. But after I left home for education, as much as he denies it, we actually miss each other. I mean, who can be a better punching bag than my own brother? (Hahaha... Yea, no one can bully my brother, except me!!!) And those 3am session heart to heart talk with my bro... Though we were both half asleep, but actually I enjoyed every moment of it.
2008... Thank you God for surrounding me with so much blessings. I've learnt to stand up after each fall, and learnt to embrace each lesson in life gracefully. I hope that everything will be better in 2009.

Far Away
Even when I am just next to you
I cannot end it
Because it was not there to start with
I am so far away
Even when I shout with all my heart
You may not be able to hear it
Because the distance between two hearts
Were just so very far away
The echo of your presence is out of reach
Blocked by closed doors and windows
I can feel no soul
No matter how hard I tried to find it in your eyes
Just because our distance is so far away
This poem is dedicated to a close friend of mine who recently relate her experience to me. I think this is the closest I can relate to you because I knew what it felt like to be the last person to know about something so close to heart.
I hope you can solve your problems with that person in the best way. Good luck...
Secrets
Something that you hide from others on purpose?
Something that you just don't feel like sharing?
Something that is meant for yourself only?
A secret, has many definitions...
As much as I hate secrets,
But secrets exist,
Even between the closest souls on Earth.
Thinking that you know a person well enough
May not mean that you know that person at all
Secrets exist maybe because of fear
The fear that if something become so real
That it hurts too much
Secrets exist maybe because of distance
The distance that separates two hearts
No matter how close those two can be
Secrets are burden
Keep it well so that others don't know
Be blind when you need to
As the burden is not easy to bear
I rather not know
Curiosity often kills more than just the cat

Scarf Craze!!!
I mean... in Malaysia, you don't get much chances to wear nice winter scarfs... But I totally love these scarfs!!!
Check them out!!
Look at the unique way of the tying of the shawl. The whole look is so chic!!
Simple plaid scarf but very classy
Plain black and white buffalo scarf but the whole look is so girl-next-door attractive!!
Vogue style of shawl. Very classic look...
Personal favourite!! Look at the intricate design of the button on scarf... So beautiful!!
Since I am currently hooked onto scarfs... So I had some crazy fun and took this...
Nah... I wasn't playing dress- up... I just came back from attending a function. I thought, since I was all dressed up, might as well take a few crazy dreaming-to-be-a-model picture...
OMG... I am really crazy over scarfs!!!
掌·心 Palm. Heart
太复杂的文法 A language too complex
原谅我的粗造文笔 Forgive these few awkward lines
因为这世界很复杂 Because the world is complicated
我就是拖拖拉拉 I am always undecided
本来就没有想过 Never really thought of it before
因为根本不属于 Because it was never meant to be owned
人生就是那么妙 Life is a mysterious
好像玩着捉迷场 Just like a game of hide- and -seek
兜了一个圈 Making a big round
转了一个弯 Taking a big turn
就回到原地来 Just to end up in the same place
途中的混乱挣扎 The struggle on the way
就是人生学到的道理 Is the way of life to be learnt
路上走的冤枉路 The unnecessary roads taken
就是人生该有的享受 Is the joy of living
可能人生不该太清楚 Maybe life should remain mysterious
快乐有时来自模糊 Because at times it is the origin of happiness
不懂哪时开始很在乎 Don't know when it matters so much
不过一切都放在别处 But irrelevant things are to be put aside
因为一个温暖的手掌 Because the warmth of the palm
就暖着那颗寒冷的心 Has melt the ice of a cold heart
如果我是个作家 If I were a writer
写的是人生妙路 I will write about the miracles of life
如果我是个画家 If I were a painter
画的是世界花木 I will draw the greenery on earth
如果我是天文家 If I were an astrologist
看的是天上星星 I will look at the starry nightline
如果我是艺术家 If I were an artist
刻的是那颗掌心 I will carved out the unique Palm. Heart
This poem is inspired by two songs that I used to like very much. Forgive me for my awkward Mandarin, still working hard to improve on it. Forgive me for the not-so-accurate translation too...
But the lesson learnt today is to appreciate life and precious moments with friends and family. To the friend who taught me this valuable lesson, thank you. To those who read this, try to catch someone's heart with your palm, be it a friend or a family. You can make someone's day by small little actions like smiling at a stranger, a random act of kindness to anyone, being there for someone, or just appreciating the silence shared between 2 souls.
May we celebrate life in 2008 and embrace a better life in 2009
7 Historic ( And Seriously Unhealthy) Beauty Practices
While our modern beauty regimens certainly don’t lack weird ingredients, by tradition our good looks have often been achieved at the cost of good taste and health. What deadly and disgusting things have people used to stay young and pretty? Here are a few of the truly disturbing used throughout history.
1. Bathing in Crocodile Excrement
For some reason, the ancient Greeks thought crocodile excrement had restorative and beautifying properties. It was mixed into natural mud holes or baths full of warmed mud, and Grecian lovelies hung about in it until they felt restored and beautiful (I’m guessing that took quite a while.) We don’t know how they collected it (or why they decided it was a good idea in the first place) but it was all the rage in the wealthy and youth-seeking circles. Thankfully, bathing with water was also in vogue and there are no official reports of reptile-poo poisoning.
Eww.... Bathing in s**t? Urea content, perhaps??
2. Sticking Bird Droppings Up Your Nose
In the early days of the geisha, Japanese women used a whitening paste on their faces made mostly of rice flour and bird droppings. It was applied over the entire face, including the ears, inside the nostrils, on the eyelids and lips.
Hmm... I thought droppings of bird species is suppose to be poisonous? Anyhow, this is still being practiced widely in the US now, with several famous celebrities being its spoke person...
3. Dyeing Hair With Cow’s Blood
Hair dye has long been a staple of modern women, but ancient Iranian women also enjoyed a good dye-job. They compounded a nasty mix of henna, tadpoles, and the blood of black cows, which they applied liberally to darken and condition their hair. It was thought that the blood gave the cows their dark coloring and would do the same for human hair. Although henna is used as a natural dye to this day, the inclusion of tadpoles still confounds me.
Obviously the ancient Iranian haven't heard of cow pigmentation in those days... The use of tadpoles... Interesting... What is it suppose to do?
4. Wearing Wigs That Caused Nosebleeds
The women of England have been famous throughout history for their elaborate and strange beauty routines. In the era of Queen Elizabeth, when red hair was in fashion, women used a powder made of sulfur and safflower petals to color their hair and wigs. The blend caused headaches, nausea, and frequent nosebleeds.
Haha... Typical examples of a chines saying which literally translate into "Want beauty, don't want life"
5. Wearing Poisonous Eye Makeup
When it comes to heavy metal poisoning, no one trumps the ancient Egyptians. Men and women painted their eyes almost daily with a mixture called mesdemet, made from a dark gray lead, among other things. Also, a green paint called udju was used, made from a copper ore. Although neither product could be considered healthy, the eyepaint that Egyptians wore is credited with repelling insects and preventing infections due to the high antimicrobial activity of copper ore.
Beauty comes with a price... Ancient Egyptians were considered one of the most beautiful peoples in history... Alas... they use poisonous eye make up...
6. Liberally Applying Arsenic Powder
In a medieval version of today’s CoverGirl compact, European women used a powder (pressed into cakes or small jars) to whiten their skin. The fashionable pallor was created by using white lead ore and arsenic, among other unhealthy-but-white ingredients.
Don't they get arsenic poisoning real quick? I mean, direct contact with the skin, means direct absorptions...
7. Gargling With (Portuguese) Urine
Dental care was a little lax throughout most of history, but Romans in the time of Jupiter appreciated white teeth nearly as much as we do today. To improve the color of their teeth and freshen their breath, Romans imported Portuguese urine (believed to be stronger than their own) to rinse their mouths. While obviously unpleasant, urine contains several compounds like ammonia and urea that actually kill germs and help fight the gum disease gingivitis.
Yikes!!! Gargling urine? The origin of Listerine or something? Haha... Urine treatment is actually widely available in the US nowadays... Some people actually go to the extreme of drinking them...

害怕, Fear
Translation :
Don't know since when, life is somehow engulfed in fear.
We dare not own for fear of losing,
We dare not try for fear of failure,
We dare not walk forward for fear of falling down.
A friend once said that,
Life is not about losing, but about enjoying it when you have it...
Nonetheless, fear is still a unique feeling,
For it can push human to reach greater heights,
But also bound human from reaching greater success.
I wonder, how much courage we can muster,
To overcome this fear?
~~crappy translation... forgive me... cause I was thinking in mandarin... hahaha~~

Way Back Into Love
Way Back Into Love is my favourite song in the movie Music & Lyrics, starring Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant. The movie is about 2 very different person collaborating to write a song for a pop star and fall hopelessly in love with each other in the process. Well, these 2 made an unlikely couple, but the song and the movie is really nice.
Love this song!!
I also found this beautiful acoustic version of the song on youtube... just in case anyone wants to sing along...
Lyrics to the beautiful song....
I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed
I've been lonely for so long
Trapped in the past, I just can't seem to move on
I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need em again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind
All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
Oh oh oh
I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere
I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night
I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions
All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
There are moments when I don't know if it's real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation
All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart to you
I'm hoping you'll show me what to do
And if you help me to start again
You know that i'll be there for you in the end

The Nicole Jeffrey Show
The concept was somehow inspired by Nicole when she mentioned the CSI and I got the crazy idea of adapting the Zodiac Killer real event into our talk show, "femininised" all the characters. And through hours ofhard work and brainstorming, endless discussion and many sleepless nights, we had finally put up with our blood, sweat and tears!!
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to my team members who worked with my so well to produce this. Sorry if I have said or done anything that offended you guys in the process. I know I am very bossy... Also I would like to thank Si Nan for helping so much in the visual aids part. Sorry for taking away your precious sleep... Thanks to Wee Leng who went all the way out to help us in the video recording and also with the props. Thanks to Wei Cheng and KKB for generously borrowing us the equipments needed. Well, feel like making an Oscar speech here... Sorry if I missed out anyone...
These are our crazy moments... Thank you Goldon, for being our photographer and camera guy!!
The team players + tech guy, Si Nan
Whoa... Si Nan is real good with the video stuff!!
Goldon and Nicole.. smiling for the camera

12 Tips for Better Cramming
Don't get us wrong. Professors consider "cram" to be a four-letter word. We don't think pulling an all-nighter the night before the test is the royal path to success. But sometimes cram happens. So if you're going to do it—like 99.9947 percent of other college students—at least do it right. After all, we'd hate to see you blow off all that sleep and still wreck your GPA.
1. Cram for the test, not for the course. Many students think that cram time is "go over the course time." It's not. There's no way you're going to be able to learn 15 lectures' worth of stuff in a night. So, resolve to focus your attention only on what you think will be on the test. And stick to your resolution.
2. Scope out the scope. Be sure you know what's on the test and what's not. Many times students aren't exactly sure which lectures, readings, sections, and homework assignments are to be covered on the test (Does the test include the material on the last test? Is the most recent lecture included? Are we responsible for that article discussed in section?). You can't cram right if you don't know what you're supposed to be cramming.
3. Figure out the format. There are many kinds of questions your prof could be asking—multiple choice, short answer, essay, problem-solving. Make sure you know which is his or her favorite type. Consult the sample exam, study guide, syllabus, or instructions in lecture or section to find out. And if you're not sure, text or E-mail a friend in the class (it's unlikely your professor will be answering your questions in the middle of the night).
4. Line up your ducks. Before you start cramming, make sure you have a complete set of lecture notes (putting them in order wouldn't hurt, either) and all the problems, homework assignments, and quizzes you've taken. It's difficult to cram well if you're missing essential pieces.
5. Remember this. In some courses—language, history, math, and some sciences, for instance—there's a lot of stuff to be memorized. Do this first. You'll memorize better while you're still half awake. And you'll feel a sense of relief and well-being when you've gotten the tedious work out of the way.
Extra Pointer. Use acronyms (that is, words formed from the initial letters of the things to be memorized). Make them as clever or as dirty as you can (easier to remember that way). And then sing them out loud while making faces and flapping your arms (you'll remember the tunes and your idiotic motions).
6. Capture the concepts. In many courses, the real cramming work is to get your mind around the key concepts and central ideas of the course. This isn't just memorizing some code words (as in the previous tip) but understanding the main points in a clear enough way to be able to explain them to someone who didn't know them. Like the reader of your exam. Tip? Locate the three or four main concepts the professor was trying to teach, and think how each can be explained in enough detail to communicate a real understanding of the idea.
7. Go for the score. No, not that score. The point score. Allot your cramming time in proportion to the points on the test. Short ID's worth only 15 percent? Spend about 20 minutes preparing them. And so on.
8. Never read. Reading the assignment—or if you've been good, re-reading the material—is never an efficient way to cram. Takes too long. Instead, scan your reading notes, or if you don't have these, study the lecture notes. Your prof probably flagged the main points. Rule of thumb: more time in lecture = more important.
9. Milk a friend. In many cases, it's good to invite a friend to your "study group"—that is, to find a friend, smarter than you, whom you can leech off of to explain to you the things you don't understand.
Just make sure you're picking on the basis of smarts, not looks, and that the focus of your study is the test, not your friend.
10. Take a trial run. The last stage of your cramming should always include some self-testing, in which you construct some questions in the format you expect to be on the test, and then formulate some answers. You might be tempted to skip this step, but don't. A trial run helps you start thinking like your professor and start processing the material in the way you'll need to do in the actual exam. Think of it as a warm-up for your brain. Which it's no doubt going to sorely need after all you've put it through.
11. Pull a "half-nighter." Figure out how many hours there are in the night, then spend half that number cramming. Try sleeping the other half.
Professors' Perspective. Most professors grade as much on how well you express your ideas as on how much you know. So. if you've stayed up 'til 5 in the morning funneling as much data into your head as you can, you won't be able to think and write clearly when it comes to the test at 8:30. That's where the sleep comes in.
12. Try an Egg McMuffin or Double Croissan'wich (or at least a Cholesterol-Free Egg & Reduced Fat White Cheddar). Your brain will work better with carbs and protein (even in reduced dosages). And since you're being graded on your performance on the test—not the size of your cramming session—a megabreakfast will work wonders.
Bonus Tip. And don't forget to take out a double espresso for the test. Hey, you've crammed like a fiend. Why not load up like a fiend?

Personal Comments:
Test 2 season start adi... Soon... There will be the much dreaded finals... So fellow coursemates, cram well!! =p

The Russians used a pencil.
Chronicles of Bicycle: Slooooooooooooooooooooow
Then my phone rang....
Guess what? My roommate got trapped in new town, cause her car broke down!!! Really surprised that she called me since I am not exactly the mechanic. Haha... Seems like she just needed company to walk home...
What to do, roommates mar... So, I dumped everything and cycled to town to get her while Nicole and Vanezsha went to "ta pau" our supper.
Walking.... from new town back to the house... is not exactly near... And since Wee Leng was walking, we can't exactly cycle fast. Thus, we were literally crawling on our bikes. Anyhow, me and Vanezsha still managed to have fun, by cycling zig-zag and also making water marks on the pavement.
But the most challenging part of the entire journey, I had to say, was going down the slope!! I am usually the fastest to "fly" down the slope but today, I had to execute perfect control on the brakes (cheh wah~~~) so that I can actually cycle slowly while Wee Leng walked. The champion of slope cycling was obviously Nicole!! I wonder how she did it, cycling so painstakingly slow. Hahahaha!!
Anyway, we reached home with food, safe and sound. A truly unique experience and a test of skills in cycling real sloooooooooooooooooooowly....
Hahaha!!!

Hong Kong Fashion Week!!
Enjoy...
I love the colour and the intricate details of the dress. The criss-cross pattern across the abdomen absolutely "hide" the girl's tummy.Love the neck of the top. And the hat and jacket certainly add class to the whole look!!
Usually guys with laces look sissy... But the brilliant use of lace on the collar of a white jacket definitely adds the feminine element on the masculine look.
I like the tail of the gown, where the design is alternately bamboo shoots and criss-cross fishnets. Very chinese- element dress.
I like the setting of the stage. The models also posed nicely on the stage. However, I personally do not fancy the wedding gowns. It's almost like bird nest on display!!

Happy 100th Post
Here goes...
Thanks to YY who inspired me to start a blog... Check out her blog at Touche (a very interesting blog). Thanks to Ben and Andrew for their support and comments in almost every single entry I posted. Hope you guys will continue to support my blog!!
Since this is the 100th post, I will juts briefly mentioned the things I've learnt in posting the other 99th posts...
I've learnt to express my views and opinions, and also take a stand in many issues.
I've learnt to crap even more.... Hahaha.... All the bullshit poems and nonsensical stuff...
I've learnt to appreciate life and friendship even more. Check out my rather funny entries on Chronicles of Bicycles... These are the moments with my friends that I want to remember forever.
I've learnt to embrace my mother tongue again. Thanks to Black Tan, I've actually got used to "deciphering" mandarin and actually enjoy posting stuff in Mandarin!!
I've learnt to translate... Some readers can't read Mandarin... After some encouragements from some readers, I actually learnt to translate between English and Mandarin.
I've learnt a whole lot of funny and interesting stuff... Like the adapted articles from Mental_Floss and Yahoo! News... They are all interesting stuff that I would never know if I hadn't blog... And of course, Ben's, Zac's and YY's blog are so full of interesting scientific stuff.
I've learnt to reconnect with my friends. Through other blogs and links, I've manage to keep in touch with many friends that I didn't know that they have a blog. If anyone know of any UTAR or MGS bloggers, please let me know too...
I've learnt to enjoy more blogging!! Hahaha!! I actually like blogging and reading other people's blogs. Many interesting opinions and of course articles attract me. Gona read more....
All in all... Blogging is my new favourite hobby!! Hope my readers will continue to read my stuff... Thanks for the support ya!!!
Happy 100th Post!!

Chronicles of Bicycle: 2 Gila Girls
I had no intention at all, no intention at all to get wet and in the end, I got the wettest!!
Today, after biology practical, it was raining, and it got heavier. When we thought was safe to go back, we ventured into the drizzling rain, only to end up under the shades as the rain got heavier. The four of us was so bored, that we played games and all. Hahaha.... It was so fun, looking at Nicole and Vanezsha's funny expression. Alas, we could not wait anymore and decided to brave through the rain.
I see no point in cycling fast as I will get wet in the end. So me and Zyenyi actually cycled real slow. I felt so cold. The freezing breeze blow across my face, numbing my cheeks. And the unforgiving rain, blurring my vision by fogging my glasses. But I, again, love being in the rain. It felt liberating, like the rain wash away my burden and stress of the day.
And me and Zyenyi did something gila!! Hahaha... We stopped by the lake to take pictures!! Nicole and Vanezsha was cycling soooooooo fast that we couldn't stop them...
Anyway... When I reach home, I actually spent at least half an hour outside my house, in the rain. Silence every where, except the gentle drops of rain on the pavement. Not a ghost in sight on the street. It was like a silent conversation between me and the rain......
I love Zyenyi, for cycling in the rain with me!! Thanks for being the second gila girl in the rain!! Hahaha!!!
