I fell in love with an idea
An idea so wonderful
But after all it may be a lie
A lie so big it would hurt the world
I kept it lock
I kept it tight
But I cannot deny that I fell in love
With an idea so nice
That after all it may be a lie

Painted Skin - The Review
Painted Skin is the first movie containing supernatural elements that were approved by the China Board of Censorship for production.
That is the reason I went to watch the movie.
This movie is adapted from famous chinese classic "Liao Zai" (聊斋)It is a story about a fox vixen spirit who had to consume human heart in order to maintain her human shape amongst human. And this fox vixen in this movie is brillianty, and innocently played by Zhou Xun. The story opens with the army leaded by Jeneral Wang (Chen Kun) unknowingly saved Xiao Wei ( the fox vixen in human form) from bandits. Xiao Wei settled down in Jeneral Wang's house with his wife, Pei Rong. (played by Zhao Wei, more famously known by her role as Huan Zhu Ge Ge in My Dear Princess, almost ten years ago. Amazingly, she can actually stop shrieking and jumping around like a 3 year old kid in this movie) At first, Pei Rong welcomed her as a sister but later suspected that she was a vixen spirit because murders where victims' hearts were taken started when she arrived. When Pang Yong (Donnie Yen) showed up drunken at the Wang's doorstep, Pei Ring was more than happy to enlist her former lover's help to catch this vixen. Of course, there was this amateur demon catcher, Xia Bing (Betty Sun) doing her job.
For me, the plot was simple. Guy meet girl, girl fall in love, wife get jealous, wife ask for help of former lover, guy get jealous, etc etc. SPOILER AHEAD: In the end everybody dies and the lover of the former lover ask for girl's help, girl revived everyone with magic, girl kill herself, the end...
But what attracted me to the movie wasn't Zhou Xun' teary eyed, innocent- looking girl, or Chen Kun's near to wood-like acting skills, but the grand scale of the set!! Ok, part of the attraction was Donnie Yen. Actually, I was quiet amazed he took the courage to take on this role. He was like the funny man in the show, cracking jokes here and there, very different from his usual role as the kung fu grandmaster... But the too well choreographed fighting scenes were a bit of a spoil. Everyone look like they suddenly grow wires from their back and started flying around.
In this movie, Donnie Yen is the comical relief that enlighten the mood of an otherwise, a bit boring movie
And that poor demon catcher... I wonder if she ever need blood diffusion because she was practically spilling her magical blood on weapons in the grand finale!! I secretly wonder, if she was in a huge battle, she might die not of demon attacks but blood loss...
Anyway, the movie's custome is also an eye candy. At least the people wear believable clothes and have believable hair, unlike some certain big budget blockbuster where the emporer wear an armor so heavy he can't walk or the emperess had a bird nest growing on top of her head. However, I was amazed that with this much hint of nudity in the movie, our very responsible board of censorship did not rate this movie a 18-SX!! But they did cut off a few essential scenes where audiences were rob of the opportunity to juxtaposition the seductive vixen and the obedient wife.
I know I'm being a bit of a sadist here, but I thought it would be a nicer movie, if everyone die in the end, and the fox vixen walk away with a very very evil laugh, with that ugly looking iguana spirit by her side.

Freedom Writer
Freedom Writers -The movie
First impression of the movie: I thought it was about a bunch of black school kids who evoke a revolution by writing stuff, like Martin Luther King style... But I was wrong... So wrong....
This is a very expressive movie and certainly deserves more credit that it does. It is a true story about a class of students, made up of mainly African- Americans, Hispanic, Vietnamese, and a white boy. They had a dedicated english teacher, Ms Gruwell who did so much that she changed the lives of her students forever.
Ms Gruwell forked out her own money, worked a few jobs, and partially paid the materials used in her class, just to get the kids to read and come to school. And they organised trips and invited people to come to talk to them. It was very amazing. And mainly, the plot revolved around a book, "The Diary of Anne Frank". Ms Gruwell first introduced holoclaust in her class and raised some issues in class, because of the multi-racial and multi- ethnicity of the class. But these issues soon subdued because they realised they after all, weren't that different from each other. The respect grew among each of them, and they became very close- knitted family. Their homework, a journal, was published in 1999, entitled "Freedom Writers Diary", because each of them fought personal battles everyday for their very own freedom. In reality, all of these kids grew up and went to college, because of a teacher who believed in them and who put in so much effort to help them change their lives.
Freedom Writer- Food for Thought
Well, Freedom Writers did gave me a lot of food for thought. For one, how come this cannot happen in our country? Globally, we are well- known for our multi-racial community living in peace and harmony. But in reality, is it really like that? I mean, there are a certain group of people who demand respect and special rights as if it is their birth rights. And there are people who think they can do and say whatever they want, just because they knew a few powerful friends or simply because they are rich. Even among the people of the same colour, there are unsettled problems and discrimination.
Education system wise... Well, if a teacher dedicated enough to pay for materials for her students, how come our government who obviously have enough money to pay for materials, with some extra to feed a few mouths, cannot do that? What is the point of dumping millions of ringgits into making CDs and buying laptops and projectors when most of the teachers are not using it? What is the point of having textbooks that are almost useless? Why can't they do something more holistic, like use the money to organise field trips to musuems and galleries? And why can't secondary school students read something like The Diary of Anne Frank or Romeo and Juliet? Or is it that our intellectual level is too high to read that, but very suitable to be reading stuff like Robinson Crusoe or Prisoner of Zenda, the CONDENSED version? Plus, why are we walloping in our own circle of misery? How come even university students are so ignorant of the world history? Most of my friends don't even know what is a holoclaust and what Hitler did to the Jews!! And certainly, not many knew who evoke World War 1 and what happen in the Cold War. Why? Because we are too well educated in Islamic History and of course, which region sells what during the Kegemilangan of the Kesultanan Melaka several hundred years ago.
With all due respect, I love my country and am certainly proud of our own culture, but should we also learn to look in a wider prospective? Should we also learn to be globally educated with globalisation happening so rapidly in the modern world? Alas, those writing policies, working in air-conditioned office somewhere, should perhaps pay a bit of attention to Hollywood, cause they don't only produced smoking ass actresses but also reality in the most polite way.

Imagine
Just for comparison...
And actually I am thrilled to find out that Sasha Cohen is still performing with "Stars On Ice"!!
This is Sasha Cohen's exhibition with 2008 Stars On Ice.
Her spins are simply splendid!! Her lay back spin was in such perfect position. And her footwork!! Whoa!! I wonder how she can keep her skates going exactly in the direction she wants when she's maintaning all these positions that require high flexibility, not to mention her amazing "spread eagle" technique and her trademark "I" position!!
A performance with soul!!

Somewhere Over The Rainbow
This is a footage of US 2007 Nationals Figure Skating Champion, Kimmie Meissner's exhibition. She is also the first American and the first lady to simultaneously hold the World, Four Continents, and National titles.
This exhibition of hers is spledid!! But in my humble opinion, though I am no great figure skater, she lack of the soul and artistry that Sasha Cohen has. But she has the extra edges on technicality over Sasha Cohen. Nonetheless, another wonderful performance by an excellent figure skater!!
Enjoy!!

Movie Craze!!!!
This is sem break. And I am almost bored to my wits because of the sudden absence of work to do. Plus, the internet line is always occupied... Thus, I have no other options but to succumb to movies, lotsa lotsa movies, to avoid fungus or moses growing on me...
~Seriously, besides helping around at home, yelling at my bro, being the occasional driver, I have literally nothing to do!! Haiz. maybe should volunteer in a greater cause or something.... ~
Anyway, I watched Jumper, Hellboy II, Smother, Bourne Trilogy, The Green Mile, Music & Lyrics (again) in this week alone... Gotta catch up on reading too!!!
So, this are my reviews on the movies mentioned above, though most of you guys might have already watched them and render them "cerita basi" or never heard of them...
Hellboy II : The Golden Army
Can I say that the elf prince is cool?? Cause besides having some very ugly "scratches"on his pale face. he is cool. And I am amazed by Guillermo del Toro. He has an amazing imagination!! The most memorable scene was the one where Red, Abe and Johann Krauss enter the elf dungeon for investigation... It was like a scene lifted out from Star Wars ( the original ones) where Luke was looking for Hans Solo, except that the creatures are much more sophisticated and very fascinating. But nonetheless, the storyline is indeed a bit shallow, but I guess we can forgive the script and some forgettable one- liners because del Toro was spending time making up elaborated aliens and creatures!!
Jumper
Hmmm..... Where do I start? The trailer seemed very promising. The cast included heavy weights like Samuel L. Jackson and Diane Lane. The male lead is young Darth Vader turned Jumper, Hayden Christensen and the female lead is a pretty but unknown budding young actress. But the bottomline is, I felt like I've wasted 2 hours for a visually not-so-impressive movie with a bland storyline. The idea of teleporting yourself to the top of a pyramid for breakfast, went diving in Cuba in the evening, etc, is very cool. It is almost like Howard Hughes of the 21st century. Unfortunately, the amazing landscape shooting doesn't cover up the flaws of the story and very bad acting on Christensen and the unknown female lead part. It is almost like, their job is to look pretty on screen rather than acting the parts out. Alas, don't be cheated by seemingly impressive trailers...
Smother
"Everyone wants to be loved. Just not this much."
This is a nice movie that never got to reach our shore on the big screen... What a waste... This is almost like a family movie, with just a slight addition of what some more conservative parents would deemed unsuitable for under 13s. Overall, it is a nice one, which carry the message of family love and care. It emphasised a lot on how much parents sacrifice for their children, and that children should be grateful for that, no matter what your mummy or daddy did. Strong message, amazing cast (Dax Sheppard, Liv Tyler, Diane Keaton, Mike White and many more), touching story and not to mention, the soul of the movie overall, comedic acts!! It is a typical feel- good movie which indeed, I feel good after watching.
Bourne Trilogy
I watched Bourne Ultimatum in the cineplex some time ago. But since I didn't watch Identity and Supremacy, I cannot really appreciate the wholesome of the trilogy. So I thought, "Let's put the Bourne pieces together!" So I marathon all three movies in one go. And I have to admit that the trilogy is a genius! It fits together perfectly. It is not a flop like most trilogies (Spiderman 3, Mummy 3, Star Wars Prequel, anyone?) I can practically "grow" with Jason Bourne in the trilogy, from the anaemia patient to the knowledge of himself as a hired gun. This trilogy also bring the art of parkour to a whole new level, not just leaping off high construction sites like Mr Bond. Not to mentioned, the very well choreographed car chases, assasination, bone breaking fights, the fluidity of close combat, and the nerve breaking time chase. This is the ultimate cat and mouse game, where the predator became the prey. All in all, Bourne Trilogy is a work of genius!!
The Green Mile
I cried at the end of the movie. Okay, this movie is not a tear jerker. It is about a black man on death row, wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit. He was capable of faith healing and the whole movie focused on his relationship with the prison guards. This movie is made almost 10 years ago, so many of you might not have heard of it. But it was a star-cast performance with likes of Tom Hanks, David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, Michael Clarke Duncan and many more well established actors. At times, the story seemed a bit not realistic but its about faith healing, isn't it? In the end, the guards cried when they had to execute him. And he died with peace in his mind, knowing that he will be in heaven. I cried because the movie display the underlying brutality of humanity, the discrimination human are capable of, the ugly truth about human nature but also the friendship and love, the forgiveness, the belief in a higher power, and the courage. This is a movie that is quite boring but if you watch it with an open heart, you may get the message.
Music & Lyrics
I waatched this a dozen times before, and just because it was on Star Movie last night, I watched it again. The difference is, I can now sing along with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. I still can't believe my brother actually knew the lyrics by heart!! Anyway, this movie speak of love spurn from just a few days of working together. Sorry, but I'm not a fan of love at first sight. I still can't believe that Drew Barrymore can easily fall in love with a man possibly twice her age, just after watering his plants and writing a few lines for him. But if you throw away the logic and focus on the movie, it is indeed a quite light- hearted movies with funny memorable lines and catchy songs. Hhhmm.... I can't help but wonder, what would "Way Back Into Love" sound like when it is done the Cora Corman way, ala heavy indian style.
Ladies and gentleman, I am that bored to write a lenghty review like this...
Stay tuned for more... I am now downloading Ocean's Trilogy, Stardust, and more to come!!!

If FAT is UGLY.... Then what is THIN???
I just read a quite offensive blog on a quite well- known blogger's page. It was like, "Hello?? Who gives you the right to insult fat people?? Stop b****ing around!!!"
So, I did a little research online and compiled some of the pictures of models and people.
Since that certain blogger did mention that"Skinny is INN more, than evar alright. Skinny is the new lean. Skinny is perfection. Skinny is beautiful and skinny makes you buffaloes melloes jealous much, eh?"
Girls and women out there, and even guys, please take a hard look at these SKINNY models and women...
If you still think that skinny is the perfection.... Well, it's your body... I prefer to keep my fats....

Just For Laughs!!! ~this is a really funny one!!~~
Nine Months Later....
Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. So they loaded up Jack's minivan and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.
'I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed,' she explained. 'I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house.'
'Don't worry,' Jack said. 'We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light.'
The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night.
Come morning, the weather had c leared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.
But about nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney.
It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend.
He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, 'Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?'
'Yes, I do.' said Bob
'Did you, er, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?'
'Well, um, yes,' Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out, 'I have to admit that I did.'
'And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?'
Bob's face turned beet red and he said, 'Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did. Why do you ask?'
'She just died and left me everything.'
You were thinking of a different ending, huh?? Now keep that smile on your face for the rest of your day!!!

Walk Away
To my friend who is feeling down.....
To those of you who can relate.....
CHEER UP!!!
When the wind blow
I can feel the breeze
But I can't catch it with my very bare hands
When the sun is shining
Right above me
But I can only see the shadow beneath me
Sunshine turning to black and gray
Mouthful going dust and grain
Teardrops falling like heavy rain
Doors and windows closing like insane
I couldn't bear the pain
Can only learn to walk away
Staring into sound and space
Feeling like nothing but a waste
Couldn't recognise any faces
Even though I've been to many places
Often wonder why am I in this phase
Walking in such unknown pace
Life is not always a smooth sail
It is not the easiest way
There is sure to be a few bumps and sway
A few lessons to learn and pay
Don't look back in pain
Just learn to walk away
To those of you who can relate.....

They ROCK!!!
Thanks to YY mentioning how LeeHom was inspired to play Er Hu after watching the 12 Girls Band (LeeHom is very very very talented man!!! He plays like.... umpteen types of music instruments!!!) , I went a bit crazy and downloaded bunch of their music.....
12 Girls band.... really really nice music!!! And of course.... some cover versions of western music...
Imagine "Amazing Grace" and "Only Time" in Er Hu!!! Nice!!!!
I strongly recommend this group od very talented girls to people who like instrumental music... It's very nice!!!
Confession of a Bluffing Queen!!!
Hahahaha......
I think the title is pretty much self- explanatory...... Today is my Chemistry finals..... and I personally think that it is my worst Chem exam so far....... Forgot so many things...... and so many formulae..... and of course not to mention a lot of careless mistakes......
So, being me, I did what I did best.... BLUFF.....
Hahahaha.......
I think the examiner will get abs after reading my answers..... cause he/she is going to laugh so hard!!!!!
Haiz..... Actually questions not really hard.... just that I got some serious amnesia... like "Shit.... I did this question last night..... and I don't remember!!!!"
And..... ~~walau~~ I salute myself.... The last question in Chem paper.... I forgot to look at the appendix.... ponder for like... maybe 10 minutes (waste so much time man!!!).... and decided that I don't know how to do.... So, again, I did what I did best..... BULLSHIT again...
See what I mean by Bluffing Queen??
I brought bullshitting to a whole new dimension!!! Answer also can bluff like that.... not to mention... I just invented Ryanne's Law 1, Ryanne's Law 2, etc....
So..... I don't dare to hope for good results...... Cause I already failed myself..... But marks don't really matter to me.... As long as I've done my best, it's no regrets..... (~~obviously my best is not enough this tim~~)
Now... it is loud Avril Lavigne songs!!!! And maths!!!!!!
PS: Am I gona bluff in maths again?? ~~walau~~

You Are an Emo Rocker! |
Expressive and deep, lyrics are really your thing. That doesn't mean you don't rock out... You just rock out with meaning. For you, rock is more about connecting than grandstanding. |
You Are Trinity |
"Touch me and that hand will never touch anything again." |
You Are Jean Grey |
Although your fate is often unknown, you always seem to survive (even after death). Your mind is your greatest weapon, literally! Powers: telepathy and telekinesis, the ability to project thoughts into the mind of others, communication with animals |
Your Superpower Should Be Mind Reading |
You are brilliant, insightful, and intuitive. You understand people better than they would like to be understood. Highly sensitive, you are good at putting together seemingly irrelevant details. You figure out what's going on before anyone knows that anything is going on! Why you would be a good superhero: You don't care what people think, and you'd do whatever needed to be done Your biggest problem as a superhero: Feeling even more isolated than you do now |
You Are a Pegasus |
You are a perfectionist, with an eye for beauty. You know how to live a good life - and you rarely deviate from your good taste. While you aren't outgoing, you have excellent social skills. People both admire you - and feel very comfortable around you. |
Chronicles of Bicycles : Dungs Away!!!
Today, after bio test, me and the girls went to Tesco for lunch..... Partly to cure my depression after a not-so-good bio paper... ( I was like, "What the F***, I DON'T REMEMBER READING THIS!!!!") Anyway, since dear Ms Aishwarya didn't cycle to campus, someone had to bonceng her la.... And, as usual, the road to Tesco is covered with cow dung.... I am actually quite happy... At least I didn't roll onto any dung.... But the merciless sun scorching my skin.... I swear I definitely got darker!!!
Happy lunch in Tesco, spent a few bucks on foodstuff, and time to cycle back....
Haiz.... I was cycling on Kumutha's bike while Nicole took mine, since she has really long slender legs.... At first, it was fine.... then my butt started to sore.... The seat was simply tooooooo low..... Hahahaha...... But we had great fun though, nearly colliding into each other.....
When in campus, YY who was "bonceng-ing" Kumutha, went to the hump without breaking and.... viola..... the next moment, Kumutha was sitting on the road!!! I was following right behind and I literally saw her sorta flew of the bike!!! But she was laughing on the road, so I guess nothing serious.... Hahahaha....
On the way down the slope, we stopped to wait for Ms Aishwarya and **crap** I fell..... I have no idea what luck is that!!! Standing stationary also can fall from the bike!!! It was a stupid thread from the hem of my jeans that got stuck in the pedal!!! **ISH!!!***
Anyway, safe journey home.... And that was one funny episode on bicycle riding..... with my friends...

Moon cake festival.... alone in my room..... reading bio....
Not really that saddening la..... Went home yesterday to celebrate with my family, had a late night heart -to- heart session with my bro, and of course a big headache in the morning for not enough sleep!!
Actually I'm quite glad to go home, even thought it meant a weekend gone for preparing finals..... I am surrounded by my family at least....
And my housemates back here.... are super kind.... I got a mooncake from them.... and at least I did some studying tonight with Hien Fuh... OMG, that guy is mad..... I wonder what exactly his brain is made up of.... I can never keep up with his pace..... Luckily he is not a stuck-up genius.... At least he is willing to teach and share.....
Still got tonnes to read and memorised..... I keep asking myself how I did it last time....
Maybe it was pure luck that I managed to score quite good last test..... Haiz.... Gotta get my butt up and beat myself!! I mean, what is life, if you don't wanna do your very best??
I can only pray and hope.... that miracles happens... and I can actually process and remember those mumbo- jumbo biological facts, at least until after the exam.....

Happy Sisters' Day
I got this from an email my mentor sent to me.... So I thought of sharing it with the world...
To the cool girls and women that inspired and touched my heart so much!!!
Thank you so much for being in my life...
Happy Sisters' Day!!!
Enjoy!!
Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Love the ones who don't just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it.
Happy Sister's Day!

Freaking Out!!!
~ Currently very into Avril Lavigne..... maybe because of her concert....
Sadly, I don't get to go watch.... Anyway, I was listening to her songs, studying for finals, and suddenly.... got inspired to write!!!
Anyone out there who don't think this is crappy..... maybe you can pick up y our guitar and turn this into the next big hit.... Hahaha.... wishful thinking.... ~~
Freaking Out
I wanna scream like I never did before
I wanna jump like the world will now fall
I wanna throw it all away
And start all over again
Cause the finals sucks
I have no idea what I wrote
I don't even remember what I memorised so much
Just the bloody night before
I hate it when I stare at the same damn line
For so many times but don't know what to write
And hearing that annoying ticking sound
Like my time is up and I'm so screwed
I'm freaking out
I wanna scream out all my frustration
I wanna put up a fight
I don't wanna go down so easily
One week had just flown past
I have no control of what is busted
I wanna scream and kick and shout
And hope that tomorrow is another better day
I'm freaking out
And I wonder what I just read
Why can't my brain be a sponge
And take in all the meaningless information
I wanna scream like I never did before
And pray that all that I studied
Will never ever be forgotten
At least till after this very stressful test

Your Life Path Number is 4 |
Your purpose in life is to build your vision. You are practical and responsible. You work hard, knowing that there are no shortcuts in life. You work for a better life for yourself and those you love, but you are not an idealist. Trustworthy and honest, you also demonstrate great courage. People can count on you. In love, you are a loyal and committed partner. You are the ideal spouse. You don't give up easily, and sometimes you can be too stubborn and unwilling to change. You also can be too conservative at times. You sometime miss out on good opportunities. Also remember that not everyone can work as hard as you, as disappointing as that is! |
